What do you want to know about singing?

My vocal students always ask incredible questions. This blog is inspired by them! I am passionate about empowering singers and I’ll do my best to address those questions drawing from all my experiences working with private students, choirs, and other music professionals for the past 20 years.

The beginner experience

I have worked with A LOT of singers. Whether in private lessons or choral groups, each singer has different skills. Honestly, all of them are beginners at something. I have a huge appreciation for the beginner experience. Sometimes it’s a child learning to sing Do-Re-Mi, or an adult learning to sing with more volume, or a semi-professional learning to collaborate with accompanists. Whatever the situation, I love helping singers make connections so they can sing with confidence.

Private lessons and leading choirs

My extensive experience in private lessons with children, teens, and adults has culminated in my current work as Co-Developer at FULL VOICE Music. Our team’s fun activities and songs are researched and developed specifically so voice teachers can offer amazing lessons to beginners.

When I was a jazz choir instructor in post-secondary education and community groups (for nearly 20 years!), I encountered a huge variety of sounds and struggles. But together, my students and I came up with solutions. We addressed challenges such as vocal technique, reading music, working with instrumentalists, creative expression, and more.
